I know this is my business blog, but then I realized, my business is part of who I am and who I am is what makes my business special. I hope you all enjoy following me through this journey!
This morning, I was just standing in front of the mirror, staring at my bare face. I was standing there thinking, 'I'm just going to go to work with no make up! Why not?' I just stood there staring, continuing to contemplate whether or not I should. The longer I stood there the more heated and upset I got. Why is this so hard? I am actually fine with not wearing make up all the time or just wearing some mascara on the weekends. I have pretty good skin so I wasn't too worried about that. I normally don't wear too much anyways. What's the problem then? Why couldn't I go into the office and have all my coworkers see me without make up on? I shared my frustration with Matt and although he listened to me, was fully supportive, and told me how pretty I was, there's no way, as a man, he fully understood what I was so frustrated about. Why should I feel the need to cover the dark circles under my eyes, make my super blonde eye lashes darker, or cover up this zit that just popped up?? These are things that everyone deals with, yet as a women I feel socially pressured to cover all my physical flaws, daily.
Then it hit me...tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. I hadn't really thought of what I was "giving up" this year, and this was perfect. "If you don't give up something that you're really attached to then you really haven't done what Lent is asking of you. In order to get through Lent, you need to lean on God. But if you give up something easy, you don't really need to lean on Gad any more than you already do." I read that in an article today (https://www.theodysseyonline.com/im-giving-up-makeup-for-lent-and-im-terrified) and it was said perfectly! I'm tired of giving up the same ol' thing every year. I want to challenge myself and grow.
Things I'm kind of scared, worried, or anxious about:
-The obvious one...getting a HUGE ZIT and not being able to cover it up
-Responding to everyone's comments at work about if I'm sick or was running late to work
-Attending two bridal showers and a baby shower, surrounded my women who did their hair and make up
-Going to my photoshoots and clients thinking that I'm lazy and don't care to look professional for them
-Being out of my comfort zone for so long
That's all for my post today... wish me luck tomorrow! I'm going to update you on how my day went and how I felt having zero make up on. I'm excited to feel free and show the bare face that God gave me. :)
Thanks for reading and comment what you're giving up for Lent or things you wish you could take a break from! Check back tomorrow!
