Welp- I’m actually doing it. I, Katherine Peterson, am starting a blog. I always envied people who had enough to say about their daily lives to write about them and enough people to read it that cared. I am thankful to finally be one of those people. God has chosen a path for me that I didn’t know I could even walk down, and believe it or not, it includes writing this blog. I want to have this outlet and space where people can witness my photography and get to know who I am at the same time.
A little over a year ago I started my photography business- Infinite Moments, LLC. I had a billion names in mind and I remember one Sunday, Matt (my amazing husband I’ll chat more about later) and I were at my parent’s house deciding what my business should be called. My mom Googled names to make sure no other KC photographer had already claimed it, and my dad was spouting off 100 possible names per minute. We all landed on “Infinite Moments” and it felt so right.
Okay so, I had my business name...now what? Lucky for me, I married an attorney who knows what he’s doing when it comes to business documents. He drew up an Operating Agreement and all that other boring stuff. It was real. I was an owner of a business I created- with the support of my husband, family, and friends.
Growing up I had always loved having my pictures taken, looking at pictures of people, and taking pictures, yet being a photographer never crossed my mind. I honestly didn’t know where to start or what to do so I just kept gliding through life on an easy, uneventful path. Even after graduating college with my business degree I didn’t know what I wanted to do for a career. I got a job for a wonderful bank and married the love of my life.
A year into marriage I started showing a real interest in photography but still didn’t think it was a possibility because, what did I know? I sat down and talked to Matt about it one night. I told him I wasn’t happy where I was career wise and needed a creative outlet- a job where I was my own boss with flexibility. Photography was my answer. Matt just looked at me and said “Let’s do it!” without any hesitation. Now I just needed to learn everything about photography…
And that's what I did. I want to take this moment to thank a few people. Jessica Seaman- your kindness and willingness in the beginning to lend me your camera, teach me everything you know about lighting, critique my photos, answer all my silly questions over text, and be there for moral support- you have no idea how much that meant to me. You continue being my mentor and I love how we’ve both grown the past couple years. Mom and Dad- both of you have shown such excitement about this new path I’m on; it makes me beyond happy to see how truly proud you are of me. Whether it's using your skills of carpentry and quilting, or giving me business advice, I will always be grateful for the unconditional support I receive from you both. Matt- oh, you know I couldn’t have done this without you. You're my number one fan. You’re the constant in my life, no matter what’s going on, I know you are here for me to lift me up and make me the greatest version of myself. I can’t wait to continue this journey together! Clients, friends, family- everyone who has liked my social media posts, shared a picture or status, given me positive feedback and support, lifted my spirits, taken interest in my business, chosen me to be your family photographer- THANK YOU. I needed it more than you can imagine.
I hope anyone reading this is enjoying my website, energy, and photography. If you are ever in doubt of what you’re capable of, just remember that I went from knowing nothing about DSLR cameras, lighting, or editing to an owner of a successful photography business with faithful clients who love my work. I am the happiest in my life I have ever been. I still have a very long way to go on this adventure, but I hope you’re all with me until the end!
The hubby and me!
Here is Matt and me! It's always nice to put a face to the names :)
Here are my parents with us on our wedding day! I'll probably talk about them every now and then...they're a big part of my life still. :)
I didn't spend any time talking about my fur babies today, but I'm obsessed so I will probably write a whole blog about them real soon. Here are Arcade and Rosy :)
